Digital Portraiture

Digital portraiture seems like the same thing as painted portraiture and it sort of is. I assume it began that way, but I think it has become something more. Digital portraiture nowadays differs from painted portraiture back in the day for various reasons. The first one that comes to mind is that painting of portraits used to be found in the houses of royalty, whereas now you can find portraits or family portraits all over most houses.

This summer, I was interested in taking Senior Portraits, so I started to look into it. Once a couple of my friends had actually asked me to take their senior photos, I did more in depth research. I was surprised by what I found. Photographers are charging between $100 to $200 for just a two-hour session; the actual pictures are charged separately. In places like New York prices for senior photo shoots were up to $700! I was extremely shocked. I looked into what their packages included and what the price of each package was. Most photographers had packages of printed images instead of digital files of the pictures, which I find is very inconvenient for the customer in this day in age. I don’t know what I was most shocked about: the prices or the fact that they can even charge that much.

I decided to charge $50 for the shoot and $30 for the time I spent editing the pictures for a total of $80 dollars. I don't think I would pay hundreds of dollars to get my picture taken, but I'd pay $80. The pictures on the side are some Senior Pictures I took of some of my classmates.
